MIDTESOL 2026 in Overland Park: A Practical Participant Guide

MIDTESOL 2026 brings language educators and related organizations to Johnson County Community College in Overland Park on Friday and Saturday, October 30–31. The organizer describes two days of presentations, workshops, discussions, networking and an exhibitor hall centered on the theme “Cultivating Linguistic Identities in the Midwest.”

This guide summarizes current public information for attendees, presenters and exhibitors. It is not a replacement for registration confirmation or organizer instructions. Details can change, so review the official MIDTESOL 2026 conference page shortly before traveling.

Decide whether the program fits

The conference theme focuses on the multiple identities language learners hold and on ways educators can support multilingual students. The organizer says sessions may cover home languages, inclusive learning environments, multilingualism as an asset, and practical or research-based strategies for English-language teachers. That makes the gathering most relevant to people working in K–12, higher education, adult education, teacher training, program administration and related resource organizations.

The public conference page does not yet display a complete session-by-session schedule. Before choosing travel times, wait for or request the current agenda rather than assuming both days begin and end at the same time. Presenters should rely on their organizer confirmation for session length, room assignment, technology and handout expectations.

Registration and current prices

MIDTESOL says registration includes two full days of programming and networking, access to the exhibitor hall, continental breakfast, buffet lunch and refreshments on Friday, plus continental breakfast and refreshments on Saturday.

The early-bird deadline passed September 15. The official page currently lists these full rates:

  • MIDTESOL member: $249
  • Student or paraprofessional member: $179
  • Professional non-member: $310
  • Student or paraprofessional non-member: $210

Check the registration form before paying in case availability, inclusions or terms have changed. The conference page does not state that the event is open for casual walk-in attendance, so do not arrive without a registration confirmation.

Hotel and transportation planning

The conference venue is Johnson County Community College, while the conference hotel is the DoubleTree Hotel Kansas City–Overland Park at 10100 College Blvd. These are different addresses. Save the JCCC address for conference navigation and the hotel address only for lodging.

The organizer lists a conference rate of $155 per night for a king or two-queen room, with Wi-Fi and parking included, and says a limited number of rooms are held through September 29. A posted cutoff does not guarantee inventory until that date. Review the hotel booking page for current availability, cancellation terms, taxes and any accessibility needs before reserving.

JCCC's current parking policy says designated parking at the main campus is free. It also notes that some spaces are restricted and that improperly parked vehicles may be cited or towed. Use the current campus map, follow signs when you arrive and confirm the conference building or room with MIDTESOL before selecting a lot. Do not assume the nearest visible lot is open to every visitor.

Accessibility and campus navigation

JCCC's map identifies accessible parking, accessible doors and elevators. The college also publishes an accessibility statement and lists Access Services at 913-469-3521. Conference-specific accommodations should be requested through the registration or organizer process because student-service procedures may not be the correct route for a short-term conference guest.

If you need step-free access, interpreting, seating, dietary support or another accommodation, contact MIDTESOL early and ask for the assigned room and route. The public conference page does not currently specify the conference building, room block on campus, pet policy or event-specific accessibility arrangements. Avoid relying on assumptions based only on the campus-wide map.

A useful attendee checklist

  1. Save your registration confirmation and the latest organizer agenda.
  2. Confirm the exact JCCC building and room before leaving home.
  3. Download or screenshot the campus map in case mobile service is uneven indoors.
  4. Bring a charger and a simple way to record follow-up resources from sessions and exhibitors.
  5. If meals matter to your plan, verify current inclusions and communicate dietary needs through the organizer.
  6. Wear or bring what you need for walking across a college campus; parking location and weather can affect the route.
  7. Recheck the official page for schedule, registration or venue updates.

Notes for presenters and exhibitors

Presenters should confirm whether handouts must be uploaded digitally, printed independently or supplied in a particular format. Bring a version-controlled master file and test all links or QR codes before the session. If a resource could be reused after the conference, include a stable title, date and contact path rather than filling the page with event-only language.

Exhibitors should get the current organizer packet before ordering a display. The conference page links to exhibitor registration, and MIDTESOL identifies Lorraine Gardner as exhibitor coordinator at lorrainegardner@midtesol.org. However, the public pages reviewed do not confirm booth dimensions, included furniture, setup and teardown times, shipment labels, campus receiving rules or a final exhibitor deadline. Ask for those details directly and keep the written response with your production files.

For participating organizations that still need local production, 2 Friends Printing has a restrained MIDTESOL exhibitor printing guide covering display graphics, educator handouts and resource cards. 2 Friends Printing is an independent printer and is not affiliated with or endorsed by MIDTESOL or Johnson County Community College.

Event details can change. Recheck the official conference page and your registration materials immediately before attending.
